St. Vincent's is the perfect base from which to explore everything the city has to offer. The Garden District, with it's majestic oaks and stunning historic mansions, is at your doorstep. We are ideally located on Magazine St, one of the coolest streets in America. Four miles of coffee shops, restaurants, bars, hot clothing and make-up boutiques, art and craft galleries, antiques and more - it is a destination in and of itself. Magazine St enjoys excellent bus service so you can explore it's lengh without tiring yourself. The bus will also take you downtown to the French Quarter. Some will spend time just listening to great music and getting thoroughly drunk on Bourbon Street and in the Marigny. Others will want to go antiquing and visit museums and historic houses such as 1850 House on Jackson Square, the Herman-Grima, Gallier andBeauregard-Keys houses, all in close walking distance and giving you a fascinating insight into life in 19th century New Orleans.
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Beignets, seafood, wonderful Creole and Cajun restaurants and some of the hottest chefs in the country - Emeril, Susan Spicer, Donald Link - will ensure you eat way too much. But you will burn it off seeing Audubon Zoo, riding a steam ship or a street car (tram), taking a voodoo, French Quarter or Garden District walking tour, and dancing or listening to music - Jazz, blues, rock and classical are all vibrantly alive in New Orleans. You can also tour the swamps and the plantations just outside the city - they are well worth the effort. If you have children, there is SO much to entertain them - catch the ferry accross the river, ride the St. Charles Ave street car, take a carriage ride round the Quarter, visit the Louisiana Children's Museum, the Zoo, the Aquarium and the stunning new Audubon Insectarium.
